COMPANY RATE REVIEWS

A pleasant app does not rescue an expensive exchange rate

We begin with what the recipient gets, because that is where a “fee-free” claim either survives or falls apart. The review then covers delivery, service and the bits of the price a public calculator does not reveal.

01Count what leaves the rate

A separate fee and a poorer exchange rate both reduce the money delivered. The label does not matter much to the recipient.

02Make the quote prove itself

A public converter is useful context. It cannot outrank a completed transfer journey with the same amount.

03Price is not the entire service

Cash access or human help may justify paying more. We say where the trade-off looks sensible and where it looks a bit steep.

XE

Xe

4.6 / 5 editorial rating

Xe has the reach and support to handle far more than a routine £200 payment. Its public converter is useful, though it is not the rate a customer can necessarily book, a distinction the glossy chart leaves rather quiet.

Wise

4.7 / 5 editorial rating

Wise remains the cleanest yardstick for an ordinary bank transfer. It uses the mid-market rate and places its charge in view, so there is less detective work between the advertised rate and the amount delivered.

CurrencyFair

4.3 / 5 editorial rating

CurrencyFair is a credible bank-transfer specialist that publishes a typical exchange margin, which is more candour than most brokers manage. The flat transfer-out fee still needs adding to the rate cost.

Atlantic Money

4.4 / 5 editorial rating

Atlantic Money charges £3 rather than taking a percentage, and says it adds no exchange-rate markup. That is fairly ordinary on £200 but difficult to ignore on £20,000, provided the route is actually supported.

Remitly

4.2 / 5 editorial rating

Remitly earns its place through local delivery, including cash and mobile wallets. The welcome rate can look splendid on the first screen, so we keep it away from the repeat-customer comparison.

WorldRemit

4.1 / 5 editorial rating

WorldRemit is useful when the recipient needs cash or mobile money rather than another bank account. Change the payout method and the price can change with it, so the exact delivery choice belongs in the quote.

OFX

OFX

4.3 / 5 editorial rating

OFX is better suited to a property payment or business transfer than a quick £200 remittance. Human support is useful, though the executable rate usually sits behind registration rather than on the public page.

Paysend

4.0 / 5 editorial rating

Paysend makes the visible charge pleasantly simple on many routes. The exchange rate still does some of the charging, so two identical £1 fees can leave the recipient with different amounts.

TransferGo

4.2 / 5 editorial rating

TransferGo is a useful UK and European service with published starting prices and a modest multi-currency account. “From” remains the operative word because speed and payout method decide the final bill.

Taptap Send

Taptap Send is built for particular migrant routes rather than universal currency coverage. Many transfers show no separate fee, leaving the exchange rate to do the commercial work.

Instarem

SingX

SingX separates its transaction fee from a rate it says carries no markup. The disclosure is admirably plain, though the service is most relevant to customers sending from its licensed Asian markets.

Xoom

Xoom adds cash and bank delivery to a PayPal-linked remittance service. The final price depends heavily on how the customer pays and how the recipient collects, so zero-fee examples need reading carefully.

Profee

3.9 / 5 editorial rating

Profee can price European card and account routes keenly. Some of those journeys do not match a UK-funded bank transfer, so we compare it only where the sending market and payout method line up.

ACE

ACE Money Transfer

3.9 / 5 editorial rating

ACE has useful depth on South Asian remittance routes, where local payout partners matter. Its public calculator often blocks automated collection, so an unproven rate stays off the table.

Asda Money

Asda Money is a familiar name attached to several partner products. A travel-cash rate is not an international bank transfer, and we refuse to make the two look comparable for the sake of a fuller table.

Starling Bank
