Choose two companies to compare their fees, delivery options and customer feedback. Then check the actual quote for your route: the right service still needs to deliver a competitive recipient amount.
Transparent bank-to-bank transfers, multi-currency balances and customers who want the rate and fee separated.
Xe
People who want broad currency coverage, rate alerts and support for larger transfers.
Where it may not fit
Wise
Cash collection and customers who assume every funding method costs the same.
Xe
Anyone comparing only the public mid-market-style converter without opening the transfer quote.
Exchange-rate model
Wise
The mid-market exchange rate is used for the conversion. Wise does not add a hidden rate margin to a standard transfer.
Xe
Xe displays live market information publicly, then provides a customer send rate during the transfer flow. Xe states that it earns money on the conversion.
Fees to compare
Wise
A variable fee combines a small fixed element with a percentage that changes by currency, amount and payment method. Volume discounts can reduce the percentage on large transfers.
Xe
A send fee can apply according to the route, payment method and amount. The fee and customer rate appear before confirmation.
Delivery
Wise
Often seconds or the same day on supported local routes. Swift-funded or less liquid routes can take longer.
Xe
Usually 1 to 3 business days after Xe receives the customer's funds, depending on the destination and currency.
Access and eligibility
Wise
Website and app, personal and business accounts, local receiving details in selected currencies and transfers from small to multi-million-pound amounts.
Xe
Online and app transfers, with support for personal and business customers. The published UK and European online limit is £350,000 or the sending-currency equivalent.
Customer feedback
Wise
Wise's visible reviews praise quick transfers, clear app navigation and convenient currency handling. The same profile also covers cards, travel spending and account access, so its score is broader than international transfers. Critical reviewers describe account restrictions, uncertain explanations and difficulty resolving disputed transactions; one also objects to debit-card funding costs. Wise replies that security and regulatory checks can restrict accounts. That is the company's explanation, not independent confirmation of what happened in any customer's case.
Xe reviewers describe straightforward transfers, useful progress messages and competitive rates, with one reporting a same-day New Zealand-to-Australia payment. Other visible accounts describe slower delivery or an account being locked during a larger transfer, followed by difficulty getting an explanation. These reports make the size and circumstances of the payment relevant to the review. They do not establish that a successful small transfer predicts the handling of a much larger one, or that reported delays are typical.
These are service and pricing models, not live quotes. Use current verified quotes for the same route, funding method and payout method to compare the total paid with the amount the recipient receives.
Customer scores belong to the linked review sources and are separate from our editorial ratings. Review profiles can cover different products, countries and periods, so their scores do not establish an overall winner.
Compare the full price
A fixed charge is easy to see. A cost built into the exchange rate takes more checking. Start with the same sending budget, currency pair and payment method, then compare what the recipient gets after the disclosed fees.
Keep introductory offers separate from the rate a returning customer can use. Account plans and business products can also carry conditions that make a headline price unsuitable for your transfer.
For a regular small payment, simple recipient setup and repeatable pricing may matter most. For a property payment or other large transfer, contact, limits and document requirements deserve attention before you send funds.
A bank, app, cash network and broker can serve different needs. Check the quoted delivery method, whether the recipient has the right account or collection access, and how the provider handles a delayed payment.
We researched customer feedback for all 40 companies in this directory. Each profile records the source and date, with reported strengths and problems. Some sources cover a whole bank or account service; a small transfer-only sample has a different limitation.
Published ratings describe the people who left feedback. They do not measure every customer’s experience, prove a failure rate or predict your outcome. Use the comments to identify questions, alongside the provider’s terms and your actual quote.
The amount you send can change which fee structure costs less. This example compares a flat £3 fee with a 0.5% fee. They are invented examples for the calculation, not prices from any company. Fees are rounded to the nearest penny.
Example A · fixed fee£3.001.50% of the transfer amount
Example B · 0.5% fee£1.00Fee grows with the transfer amount
The percentage fee is £2.00 lower at this amount.
This compares the stated fee only. The exchange-rate markup, intermediary charges, subscription costs and recipient charges could change the overall result. Recheck the final recipient amount in a real provider quote.
Make a shortlist, then check the route
The comparison above explains how companies differ. Our route pages put those differences beside dated quote receipts, current coverage and comparisons with other destinations. Selected UK routes also include historical World Bank cost observations, labelled by period and calculation method.
