What Xe has shown on monitored routes
A win requires a completed, non-promotional quote at the same sending amount. Converter rates and modelled bank prices remain useful evidence, though neither is allowed to wear the winner's badge.
Where Xe makes sense
- Best for
- People who want broad currency coverage, rate alerts and support for larger transfers.
- Less suitable for
- Anyone comparing only the public mid-market-style converter without opening the transfer quote.
- Where the rate cost sits
- Xe displays live market information publicly, then provides a customer send rate during the transfer flow. Xe states that it earns money on the conversion.
- What the fee tells you
- A send fee can apply according to the route, payment method and amount. The fee and customer rate appear before confirmation.
- Delivery
- Usually 1 to 3 business days after Xe receives the customer's funds, depending on the destination and currency.
- Access
- Online and app transfers, with support for personal and business customers. The published UK and European online limit is £350,000 or the sending-currency equivalent.
How Xe's quote can flatter or disappoint
Xe needs two separate judgements. As a currency-information service it is exceptionally visible: customers can inspect charts, alerts and market rates without opening an account. As a transfer company, however, Xe supplies a separate send rate. That rate includes the commercial conversion economics of the transaction. A screenshot of the public converter proves the market reference at that moment, not the final amount available to a signed-in customer.
That distinction explains our treatment of Xe in corridor tables. Xe is marked Best Rated for its overall service, breadth and reputation, but an indicative converter result cannot beat a provider that has supplied a complete, bookable bank-transfer quote. Readers should compare the final recipient amount after Xe has applied both its rate and any send fee.
Xe becomes more interesting when the payment is larger or less routine. Its published UK and European online limit reaches £350,000, while its support and rate-alert tools fit property, business and relocation transfers. For £200, a flat-fee specialist or a remittance app may win. For a six-figure payment, service, execution and payment tracing can matter alongside the last decimal point.
Where it works well
- Very broad currency and country coverage
- Rate alerts and established market-data tools
- Suitable for transfers far above the £200 examples on this site
Where the value thins out
- Public converter evidence is indicative, not a transferable quote
- The exchange-rate margin is not expressed as one standard percentage
- Third-party bank deductions can still occur

What to price beside Xe
Wise remains the cleanest yardstick for an ordinary bank transfer. It uses the mid-market rate and places its charge in view, so there is less detective work between the advertised rate and the amount delivered.
Read the Wise rate review →CurrencyFair is a credible bank-transfer specialist that publishes a typical exchange margin, which is more candour than most brokers manage. The flat transfer-out fee still needs adding to the rate cost.
Read the CurrencyFair rate review →OFX is better suited to a property payment or business transfer than a quick £200 remittance. Human support is useful, though the executable rate usually sits behind registration rather than on the public page.
